Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University softball team dropped two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games against Saginaw Valley State University on Thursday (April 3) at the FSU Softball Field.
The Bulldogs (15-11, 4-6 GLIAC) suffered a 10-1 setback in the first game before SVSU (22-8, 9-1 GLIAC) triumphed 8-0 in game two. FSU mustered three combined hits, one of which was an RBI triple from Emma Gillard in game one that plated the Bulldogs' lone run of the afternoon
Catherine O'Donohue started the first game for Ferris State, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing six earned runs. Ella Covill-Marter relieved her for the final 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out one batter.
Jadyn Joseph led off with a walk for FSU, and Gillard hit Joseph in with a triple two batters later. Gillard had the Bulldogs' lone hit in game one. Joseph and Brooklyn Verbeek each drew a walk.
SVSU had 10 hits, three errors and got a complete game performance from Macy Irelan, who earned her ninth win of the season.
In game two, Cecelia Bell went the distance on the mound for FSU, allowing seven earned runs and tallying two strikeouts. Ferris State had two hits in the game compared to 11 for SVSU. Joseph tallied an infield single and Hanna Smith had a base hit in the sixth inning.
Aalana Kimble threw a shutout with 12 strikeouts for SVSU. The Cardinals committed one error, and Kimble also had a three-hit game.
Ferris State will play four games at home this weekend. Roosevelt comes to Big Rapids for a twin bill Saturday (April 5). Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) and 3 p.m. (ET). Then, FSU will host Wisconsin-Parkside in a doubleheader Sunday (April 6) at the same times.
