Ferris State Cross Country Squads Turn In Strong Showing At Two Weekend Events

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads sent student-athletes to two different competitions on Saturday (Oct. 11), coming away with strong results as both programs continue their fall campaign.

Ferris State competed in both the Lewis Conference Crossover held in Romeoville, Ill., along with selected competitors at the Muskegon Jayhawk Invitational.

In a large women's field at Lewis, Ferris State took 25th place overall with a team score of 630 on the day in the 3.73 mile event at the Lewis Cross Country Course. Senior Whitney Farrell paced FSU in 48th place in a time of 22:27.4. Jessica Durkee came in 110th overall (23:10.1) in joining Farrell atop the Bulldog lineup.

The men's race covered 4.97 miles at Lewis and FSU took 28th overall with a team total of 761 points. A total of 36 schools competed. Freshman Julian Linebaugh led FSU, coming in 136th overall with a time of 25:44.3. Teammate Ryan Ososki was right behind in 137th place at 25:44.9 for the day.

The men's competition in Muskegon covered an 8K distance and the Bulldogs came in eighth overall with a 255 figure. Ferris State was paced by Jose Flores, who finished 50th in the field at 26:52.47. Ben Scott wound up 58th with a performance of 27:01.91 for Ferris State.

Ferris State's women's team took ninth place in Muskegon with 253 points in the 5K competition. Emma Berglund came in 54th with a 20:11.07 time. Also, Jocelyn Shattuck took 57th place, turning in a 20:18.80 effort.

Ferris State will compete in the 2025 GLIAC Championships on Oct. 25 in Caledonia.
