Ferris State Cross Country Battles Nation's Best At Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads took on some of the nation's top competition on Friday (Oct. 3), competing in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

The Bulldog women came in 17th overall in the women's gold 5K division while the men placed 21st in the men's gold 8K event.

The field included teams from all levels of competition, including NCAA Division I, II and III schools along with NAIA institutions.

The women tallied 430 total points in the effort. FSU was led by Whitney Farrell, who placed 42nd overall in a time of 18:27.9 in the event. Jessica Durkee came in 86th (19:02.4) with Ella Kowatch 89th (19:07.7).

Meanwhile, Olivia Van Denend took 109th place (19:24.8) with Tessa Wohlschlegel 117th (19:33.1) followed by Emily Plouff in 120th place (19:36.0) and Taylor Huntoon 124th (19:37.7). Isabelle Eppert was 127th (19:41.2) and Abby Griffith 151st (20:15.4).

On the men's side, the Bulldogs finished with 543 points in the race. Julian Linebaugh came in 93rd (26:07.8) with Ben Knuth 106th (26:14.7) followed by Emmett Johnson in 115th place (26:24.9) and Aaron Bowerman in 119th place (26:33.4).

The Bulldogs' Ryan Ososki placed 125th (26:40.4), Theodore Davis was 126th (26:44.9) and David Harris finished 150th (27:32.2). FSU's Josh Oom came in 155th (27:52.3) while Ben Sciott was 164th (29:09.6).

Ferris State will compete in the Lewis Conference Crossover on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Romeoville, Ill., with selected competitors also taking part in the Jayhawk Invitational in Muskegon the same day.
