Ferris State's Whitney Farrell Places 16th Overall At NCAA D2 National Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University women's track and field standout Whitney Farrell (Freeland) wrapped up action in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday (May 21) night in Emporia, Kan.

Farrell took 16th place overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 10:41.99 in the race. She placed seventh overall in heat two of the race, narrowly missing advancing to the finals in the event.

The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships were held at Welch Stadium and hosted by Emporia State University.

Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. For each individual event contested, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted, and for the heptathlon and decathlon the top 16 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.

Farrell was one of 22 competitors chosen to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and held the 17th-fastest time at 10:33.43 heading into the national championships prior to her finish.

This season, Farrell registered a total of six top-six finishes during the outdoor campaign. She won the steeplechase at the Elaine Leigh Invite hosted by Oakland University in April and placed third at the 2026 GLIAC Outdoor Championships in the event.

Her action on Thursday night wrapped up the 2025-26 athletics campaign for the Bulldogs.
