Ferris State Track Squads Wrap Up Opening Outdoor Action Of Season
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened up the outdoor campaign over the weekend, sending student-athletes to two different out of state competitions.
The Bulldogs had student-athletes competing in both the Jim Vargo Invitational held in Louisville (Ky.) along with the Cedarville YellowJacket Open in Ohio.
In the competition in Louisville, FSU's Whitney Farrell won the 3,000 steeplechase (10:45.66) with a NCAA D2 National Provisional Qualifying time. Emily Plouff was third (11.24.74) in the same event.
Sadie Larson was third in the 100 hurdles (15.34) with Lizzie Haines fourth (15.82) followed by Kenna Barber in sixth place (16.89) and Frances Hoffman in seventh place (16.98).
Haines took third place in the 400 hurdles (1:06.90) with Barber fifth (1:11.50) and Larson sixth (1:11.82).
Abby Griffith placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:19.61). Jessica Durkee came in sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:47.99) with Olivia Van Denend seventh (4:51.34). Darnesha Fraley took seventh place in the 200 meters (25.94).
Angela Kotecki was sixth in the long jump (16-9.25) and Alexis Le was seventh in the high jump (4-9).
On the men's side, Trevor Smith won the 200 meters (21.66) while Lucas Sefferlein was first in the 400 meters (49.30).
Jared Watchorn came in fourth in the 800 meters (1:57.84) and Blaine Rogers was fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.52). Carson Guysi was fifth in the long jump (20-7.75).
Meanwhile, Emmett Johnson placed seventh in the 5,000 meters (15:04.65) with Ryan Ososki eighth (15:13.59).
The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay team of Josh Langeland, Chase Segaar, Luke Berney and Sefferlein took second place (3:25.63).
In the Cedarville YellowJacket Open, FSU's Jack Romel was sixth in the javelin (143-8). Hunter Richardson was eighth in the shot put (48-3.50) and also ninth in the discus (154-7).
The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday, April 3, at the Michigan State Spartan Invite in East Lansing.
