Ferris State Wraps Up Strong Weekend At GLIAC Indoor Track Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads wrapped up action on Sunday (March 2) in the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships held in University Center.
The annual league event was hosted by Saginaw Valley State and the Bulldogs took sixth place on the men's side with 48 total points scored and finished seventh in women's action with 27.5 points in the two-day meet.
The Bulldogs' Jaylin Townsend took second place in the 60 meters (6.89). His time in the prelims of 6.84 was also a NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying time. In addition, Townsend was fourth in the 200 metes (22.15) while teammate Charlie Sutton was fifth (22.30) and Bryson Fronta came in seventh (22.82).
FSU's Cooper Sorsen also topped the national qualifying standard in placing third in the 3,000 meters (8:14.12). Additionally, he was the runner-up in the 5,000 meters (14:26.75) with a school-record performance.
In the field events, Devin Dennison was fourth in the weight throw (59-6.75) and Bryce George placed seventh in the shot put (50-8).
Ferris State's distance medley relay squad, which included Gavin Vansolkema, Lucas Vandam, Jared Watchorn and Zak Kimmel, placed fourth overall (10:19.05).
The Bulldogs were also sixth in the men's 4x400-meter relay with the group of Dean Topolski, Jared Watchorn, Luke Berney and Josh Langeland turning in a time of 3:25.45 in the race.
Ferris State's Allie Delost came in fifth in the 60 meters (7.77) and Abigail Winkle was seventh in the 400 meters (57.12). Daisy Englund finished eighth in the 800 metes (2:16.75).
FSU's Hanna Brock finished fourth in the 5,000 meters (17:31.19) and Whitney Farrell was fifth (17:38.05) in the same event.
The Bulldogs' Rebecca Marvin came in fourth in the weight throw (51-4.5) and Alexis Le was seventh in the high jump (4-11).
The women's distance medley relay contingent of Englund along with Oliviah Malloy, Abby Griffith and Ella Kowatch placed sixth (12:34.87). Meanwhile, the women's 4x400-meter relay squad featuring Winkle, Englund, Kendra Montague and Malloy finished seventh (4:00.12).
Overall, the Bulldogs had eight student-athletes post school top 10 all-time marks in addition to Sorsen's school-record 5K mark in the opening day of competition on Saturday at the league championships.
