Ferris State Tennis Squads Drop Non-League Matchups At #8 Embry-Riddle

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads suffered a pair of road setbacks on Wednesday (March 11) in non-league action versus nationally-ranked Embry-Riddle at the Crotty Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Eagles captured the women's match by a 7-0 score and beat FSU 5-2 in men's action.

Both Embry-Riddle squads are currently ranked eighth in the nation and the women's team is led by Bulldog alum and former FSU men's and women's head coach Chad Berryhill.

In the women's contest, Embry-Riddle improved to 13-1 overall this year with the win while FSU fell to 6-5 to date this campaign with the loss in the second-ever series' meeting. The Eagles opened the day by taking the doubles point with wins in all three flights and then captured the six singles positions.

On the men's side, Embry-Riddle improved its record to 8-2 overall this season with FSU dropping to 9-3 on the year. The Bulldogs won the doubles round as the top tandem of Erik Kovacs and Adrian Catahan won 6-3 and the second pairing of Kevin Kovacs and Felipe Iser claimed a 7-6 (7-4) win.

In singles play in the men's contest, Jose Perez defeated the nation's 31st-ranked singles player in Enrico Rosellini at two singles by a 6-2, 6-1 count. FSU's Kevin Kovacs, who is ranked 23rd nationally, narrowly fell to #28-ranked Marc Mail by a 5-7, 6-0, 5-7 score at one singles.

Three of the six men's singles matches went to third sets.

The Bulldogs will close out their spring break trip to the Sunshine State on Friday (March 13) as FSU visits Eckerd (Fla.) for a twin bill starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
