Ferris State Hockey Falls 4-0 to #15 Augustana
Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey started its weekend series against the #15 Augustana Vikings Friday (Jan. 16) with a 4-0 loss at Midco Arena in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play.
The Bulldogs (4-21-0, 3-14-0 CCHA) were shutout for just the second time this season. Meanwhile, the Vikings (15-6-3, 9-4-3 CCHA) got their third consecutive shutout from goaltender Josh Kotai who surrendered zero goals in two games to Northern Michigan last weekend.
The Vikings scored three goals in the first period with two coming in the final 2:11. Owen Baumgartner got the scoring started at 4:01 with Nace Langus assisting. Then, Jacob Jastrzebski scored at 17:49 with assists going to Brett Meerman and Hunter Bischoff.
AU capped off a strong first period with Maxwell Chakrabarti's first collegiate goal at 19:42. Cole Burtch and Langus assisted as the Vikings took a 3-0 lead into the second period.
Neither team scored in the second period with Augustana taking nine shots on goal and the Bulldogs taking six.
The Vikings tallied their fourth goal of the night at 9:01 in the third. Owen Bohn scored unassisted to give AU a 4-0 lead and seal a win for the Vikings.
For the game, Ferris State was 4-4 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play. AU outshot FSU 33-22, the Bulldogs blocked 10 shots to the Vikings' eight and Augie won 27-50 faceoffs.
Hobie Hedquist drew the start between the pipes for FSU and stopped 29-33 shots faced. Riley Wallack and Jacob Badal tied for the team lead with four shots on goal, and Gavin Best led the team with two blocked shots. Wallack also finished with a game-high eight faceoff wins.
Ferris State will go for the split against Augustana Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
