Ferris State Hockey Falls to Bowling Green in Weekend Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-1 setback to Bowling Green State University Saturday (Jan. 10) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play.
The Bulldogs (4-20-0, 3-13-0 CCHA) got their lone goal from Jack Mesic, his second goal of the weekend and first career power play strike. Junior goaltender Hobie Hedquist made 35 saves, bringing his weekend total to 73.
BGSU scored the first goal at 5:10 in period one courtesy of Gustav Stjerberg. Quinn Emerson and Ben Doran assisted as the Falcons went up 1-0.
Doran lit the lamp for his third goal this year 41 seconds into the second period with a power play conversion. Breck McKinley assisted. The Falcons extended their lead to 3-0 at 7:12 when Dominik Rymon scored a power play goal. Emerson and Ty Higgins assisted.
Mesic scored his first career power play goal at 17:12 to put the Bulldogs on the board. Max Dukovac won a puck battle in the left corner up the wall to Connor McGrath who found Mesic at the point for a shot. BGSU goaltender Jacob Steinman could not make the save, and Mesic scored his second goal of the series. Dukovac got his fourth helper of the year and McGrath got his sixth.
Jaden Grant scored a power play goal nine seconds into the third period to give Bowling Green a 4-1 advantage. Emerson and Higgins assisted.
At 13:15, Emerson scored his sixth goal of the year to seal a win for BGSU. Higgins and Jeremie Minville had the helpers.
For the game, FSU was outshot 40-19, went 1-5 on the power play and 3-8 on the penalty kill. FSU had 13 blocked shots and won 22 faceoffs while BGSU blocked eight shots and won 40 draws.
Individually, Mesic paced the squad with four shots on goal. Logan Heroux, Christopher Lie and Trevor Taulien each had two blocked shots and Josh Zary led the team with 10 faceoff wins.
Hedquist stopped 35-40 shots faced in a losing effort while Steinman recorded the win on 18 saves. Emerson had four points (1-3-4) and Higgins finished with three assists.
The Bulldogs will be on the road next weekend to take on Augustana. Friday's game is set for 8:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
