Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback Friday (Nov. 21) against Lake Superior State University in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs (2-11-0, 1-6-0 CCHA) opened their weekend series against the Lakers (4-8-1, 1-6-0 CCHA) with a narrow defeat. FSU battled back late with an extra attacker goal from Carter Rapalje but could not find an equalizer.

Samuel Belanger scored at 11:58 in the first period to put LSSU up 1-0 with his second goal of the year. Carter Batchelder and Luke Levandowski assisted.

Calem Mangone gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at 13:26 in the second period with his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Ryan Beck and Evan Bushy tallied the assists.

FSU trailed 2-0 heading into period three and started the third on the power play after Adam Barone was booked for hooking at 18:36 in the second. Lake State killed that chance off, forcing the Bulldogs to pull goaltender Martin Lundberg for the extra attacker at 16:58.

Rapalje put FSU on the board at 17:18 with his fourth goal of the year. Christopher Lie passed across the point to Jack Mesic who found Rapalje in the slot for a one-time shot that beat LSSU goaltender Rorke Applebee. Mesic collected his fourth helper of the year and Lie got his fifth.

FSU was unable to score again and tie the game as Applebee and the Lakers held on for three league points.

For the game, FSU was 3-4 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play. The Bulldogs had 33 shots on goal compared to 21 for the Lakers and had 24 faceoff wins to Lake State's 38. Both teams blocked 14 shots.
