Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University Athletics
Department will offer a special tribute to members of the armed
forces on Saturday (Jan. 7) as part of "Military Apprecation Night"
being held in conjunction with the Bulldog Hockey home contest
versus Colgate at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.
Faceoff for the non-league series' finale is set for a special
4:05 p.m. (ET) start and the event will be sponsored by Bulldog
Athletics, the FSU Blueline Club, and SFC Shawn Fries of the
Michigan National Guard in conjunction with Sunny 97.3 FM and the
Ferris State ROTC.
The tributes will help honor and recognize local individuals such
as Lance Cpl. Ned Seath, who was presented the
Navy Cross last February after a 44-year wait in a special ceremony
at the National Museum of Marine Corps in Quantico, Va.
Seath earned the prestigious Navy Cross honor for his bravery and
heroism in Vietnam on July 16, 1966, when he halted an assault of
North Vietnamese soliders.
"Lance Cpl. Seath is a true American hero," said retired United
States Air Force Command Chief Mark Brejcha of Big
Rapids. "I'm looking forward to a wonderful event honoring our
veterans and their families as well as a fun night of Bulldog
hockey."
Current and former military members and dependents of Delta
Company will receive free admission along with special activities
throughout the day. The day's events will include a special signing
of God Bless America, a unique and memorable introduction of
players, audio clips from local veterans along with other tributes
to our country and those who serve.
A skate with the team will take place after the game with free
skate rental to military and their dependents along with concession
vouchers for the military members.
An honor guard presentation will be part of the day's events and a
HUMVEE from the 125th infantry in Big Rapids will be on hand.
Additionally, two young adults will take the Oath of Enlistment to
the Michigan Army National Guard during the first intermission as
both teams remain on the ice.
