Ferris State Men's Golf Tied For 9th After Day One In Tight Battle At NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened up action in the 2026 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional on Thursday (May 7) at FSU's Katke Golf Course and the Bulldogs presently sit in a share of ninth place overall.

The Bulldogs concluded day one play late Thursday night with a nine-over par total of 297 for the opening 18 holes of play in the 54-hole event. Currently, a total of only four strokes separate a group of eight teams sitting between third and ninth place overall.

On the team leaderboard, Winona State recorded a 284 team score and holds the day one lead with Grand Valley State second (286). Both Arkansas Tech and Missouri-St. Louis shot 293 and are tied for third. A total of 20 teams plus seven individuals are taking part in the regional event.

Individually, the Bulldogs got a personal-best score from Ben Miller, who shot a five-under par 67 and is tied for first overall.

FSU's Kole Putnam shot a 75 and is tied for 43rd with Zach Spencer listed tied for 63rd with an opening-round 77 score.

Ferris State's Sam Havey shot a 78 in the first round and is tied for 70th in the field while Ethan Frost recorded an 80 and is tied for 91st place.

The second round of action will start on Friday at 10 a.m. (ET) with the Bulldogs slated to hit the tee around 12:30 p.m. (ET). The regional tournament wraps up with the final round on Saturday.

The Midwest/Central Regional is being hosted by Ferris State University and consists of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region. Four individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

The top four teams from the super regional following the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday will advance to the NCAA D2 National Championships set for May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

This year makes this the 21st time in the past 23 years in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Tournament when it has been held. The stretch of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the best stretches in the country.
