FSU Men's Golf Takes 13th Place In Florida In Spring-Opening Event
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team concluded its first action of the spring semester on Tuesday (Feb. 10), placing 13th overall with a 920 total score for three rounds at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate event hosted by Lincoln Memorial University in St. Augustine, Fla.
The event took place at the St. John's Golf Club and featured 18 schools. The Bulldogs were the lone northern team featured in the field as the bulk of the squads came from Southern states.
Overall, the event was won by nationally eighth-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) with a 865 team figure followed by North Georgia (875). Both Georgia Southwestern (888) and Catawba (888) tied for third with Wingate fifth (892).
FSU's 920 total figure for the 54 holes included a team score of 306 in round one with a 310 in round two and a 304 in the final round.
The Bulldogs were led by Ethan Frost, who finished with a +12 total of 228 in the tournament for a share of 37th place on the leaderboard. He carded a score of 77 in the first round with a 76 in round two and a 75 in the third round.
Ferris State's Kole Putnam tied for 46th at 230 for the event, notching back-to-back scores of 77 in each of the first two rounds followed by a 76 in the last round.
FSU's Ray Dress placed tied for 53rd with a total of 231. Dress shot a 78 in each of the first two rounds and came back with a 75 in the third round.
Also, Ben Miller tied for 66th for the Bulldogs with a 233 figure for the 54 holes. He shot a 75 in the opening round and closed with back-to-back scores of 79 in the final two rounds
Finally, Sam Havey wound up tied for 83rd with a 238 score, shooting a 77 in round one with a 83 in round two and a 78 in the final round.
Ferris State's Brian Tillman also competed as an individual and matched Havey for a share of 83rd place with a 238 total. He tallied a 81 in the opening round and then shot scores of 79 in the middle round and 78 in the last round.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on March 16-17 at the Ralph Hargett Memorial slated to be held in Monroe, N.C.
