Ferris State Moves Into GLIAC Semifinals With Big Home Win Over Parkside

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad pulled out a huge win on Wednesday (March 6) night in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament, topping Parkside by a 84-82 score inside Jim Wink Arena to move into the semifinal round.

The Bulldogs fell behind by as many as 13 points in the opening half and trailed 41-33 at halftime, but outscored Parkside 51-41 in the final 20 minutes to garner the win.

With the win, Ferris State, which is seeded third overall, will advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday (March 9) against seventh-seeded Wayne State in Marquette.

Ferris State beat Parkside for the third time this year to improve to 23-7 overall and keep the Bulldogs' NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

In the win, a quartet of Bulldogs led a balanced effort with 16 points each, including seniors Dolapo Olayinka, Ben Davidson and Amari Lee along with Ethan Erickson. FSU also both eight points each from senior DeSean Munson and junior Deng Reng.

The Bulldogs shot 56.6% overall and were nine-of-19 (47.4%) from the three-point arc, including a seven-of-10 (70%) effort in the second half of play.

Meanwhile, Parkside finished 51.0% overall from the floor and made 11-of-22 (50%) three's to go with 19-of-21 (90.5%) free throws.

The Rangers were led by Josiah Palmer, who had a game-high 31 points, along with Colin O'Rourke as he finished with 22 points. Jack Rose contributed 13 points overall.

The Bulldogs were outrebounded 29-20 for the game, but had only six turnovers compared to 11 for the Rangers. FSU outscored UWP 15-9 in points off turnovers and 22-13 on the break along with 38-24 inside the paint. The Bulldog bench also totaled 40 points compared to only two for the Rangers' reserves.

Parkside closed the season with a 13-16 overall mark following its second loss to FSU in less than a week.
