GLIAC CHAMPIONS! Ferris State Football Captures Fifth GLIAC Title In Last Seven Years
Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's top-ranked Ferris State University Bulldogs secured the program's 14th all-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship with Saturday's memorable 51-45 double-overtime victory at Saginaw Valley State.
The Bulldogs claimed their fifth league crown in the past seven years and their second in a row by improving to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in conference action.
With the win, combined with Michigan Tech's road setback to Grand Valley State, the Bulldogs now hold a two-game lead atop the league standings with only one regular-season game remaining.
Under head coach Tony Annese, the Bulldogs have now won seven conference championships in the last 11 years. Prior to his first league title in 2014, the Bulldogs had not won a share of a conference title in nearly 15 years going back to 1999.
By winning the league championship, the Bulldogs have also secured the GLIAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Playoffs, which begin on Nov. 22. The appearance will be the Bulldogs' nation-leading 11th consecutive playoff appearance.
FSU is currently riding a school-record 24-game winning streak dating back to the start of the 2024 season. The Bulldogs have also won three of the last four NCAA Division II National Championships under Annese's direction.
Along with being the consensus #1 team in the nation, the Bulldogs are also currently #1 in the NCAA Division II Super Region Three Rankings which help determine the makeup of the D2 Playoff Field. New regional rankings will be announced on Monday (Nov. 10) with the official NCAA Playoff selections slated to be unveiled on Sunday (Nov. 16) following the conclusion of regular-season play.
Ferris State will close the regular-season this coming Saturday (Nov. 15) with a conference road tilt at Davenport for the Calder City Classic. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (ET) at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia.
