Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University and Bulldog Athletics announced the creation of "The Bob Leach Victory Bell Campaign" during Saturday night's (Sept. 18) Football Alumni Game against Saginaw Valley State.
Coach Bob Leach guided Ferris State University's first unbeaten football team in 1968 as the Bulldogs finished 7-0-1 overall. The legendary head coach turned around the Bulldog program during his tenure, leading FSU to a top 20 national ranking during the memorable 1968 campaign. He served as the Bulldogs head coach until later departing to become the defensive line coach for the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals in 1971.
Later, Coach Leach returned to Ferris State and served as an executive administrator in the alumni and development areas for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1995.
Coach Leach was inducted as part of the inaugural Bulldog Hall of Fame Class in 2000 and remained a longtime supporter and friend of Ferris State University and Bulldog Athletics until his passing in May of 2020.
In honor of his contributions to Ferris State Football and the university, the creation of "The Bob Leach Victory Bell Campaign" was announced. Coach Leach was extremely fond of his Bulldogs and of the Victory Bell, one of the longstanding traditions of Ferris State Football. The goal of the campaign is to raise the necessary funds to rename the victory bell next season at Top Taggart Field as the Bob Leach Victory Bell in his honor.
All funds from the Bob Leach Victory Bell Campaign will directly support Bulldog Football. For those who are able, a donation link is available below or on the Bulldogs' official athletics website at FerrisStateBulldogs.com. You can also text VICTORY BELL to 41444 to support the Bob Leach Victory Bell Campaign.
Bulldog Athletics and Ferris State University thank everyone for their contributions as we work to honor a legendary and historic figure in Bulldog Football history, the late Coach Bob Leach.
