Big Rapids, Mich. – The nationally 20th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team became the first team in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) history to claim four consecutive league tournament titles as the Bulldogs swept third-seeded Michigan Tech 3-0 in the final on Sunday (Nov. 19) before a capacity crowd inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.
The top-seeded Bulldogs also became the first team in conference history to sweep the GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in four-straight years with the decisive triumph before the home fans.
Ferris State swept Michigan Tech by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 27-25 en route to defending their crown and capturing the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Junior outside hitter Courtney Brewer led the team with 13 kills with a .238 hitting percentage while senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley totaled 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel was close behind with 10 kills overall.
Grimes also 40 assists as well as two kills and an ace in the victory.
The Bulldogs finished with 45 kills with a .224 hitting percentage, 43 assists, 71 digs, 10 total blocks and two aces for the match.
The Huskies fell short with 38 kills and a .110 hitting percentage, 37 assists, 73 digs, four total blocks and two aces.
Ferris State had three representatives named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team, including the Most Valuable Player in Lauren Reminga. Both Maria Kronner and Allyson Cappel also garnered all-tournament team accolades after FSU's run thru the league tournament.
With the win, the Bulldogs will now advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament for the seventh consecutive year with the official site and pairings to be announced in a live NCAA Selection Show online Monday (Nov. 20) evening at 7:30 p.m. (ET) at www.NCAA.com.
