Ferris State's Savanna Wojtanowski Claims GLIAC Soccer Defensive Nod
Big Rapids, Mich. - After an impressive weekend performance in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Ferris State University sophomore goalkeeper Savanna Wojtanowski has earned the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Award.
Wojtanowski allowed only a single goal on FSU's trip across the Mackinaw Bridge this past weekend as FSU earned a much-needed late season split to aid their GLIAC Postseason Tournament hopes.
The Bulldog sophomore posted a shutout victory on Friday night (Oct. 25) at Sherman Field in Houghton as the Bulldogs won 2-0 over Michigan Tech, which was unbeaten in league play heading into the contest. She then gave up only a single overtime goal in Sunday's (Oct. 27) 1-0 setback at Northern Michigan.
Wojtanowski totaled 15 saves on the weekend while going the entire distance in both outings to earn the weekend split. Overall, she played 181 minutes in net, giving up only a single goal on the weekend.
The Bulldogs will wrap up league regular-season play with a single match this week as FSU travels to Ohio Dominican on Thursday (oct. 30) for a 7 p.m. (ET) conference tilt in Columbus, Ohio.
Ferris State is currently fifth overall in the conference standings heading into the final week of league regular-season competition and the top eight teams at the end of the year will receive berths into the GLIAC Tournament.
