Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Oct. 12) in Kenosha, Wis.
The Bulldog men earned runner-up honors in the large invitational, which included 19 full teams and several partial teams along with unattached competitors. FSU totaled 77 points in the team standings and trailed only the University of Windsor, which won the event with 47 points.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog women placed ninth overall in the women's competition featuring more than 25 schools as FSU totaled 196 points.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs had four individuals in the top 15 overall. FSU's David Silversmith led the way as he placed ninth overall in a time of 25:33.4 on the 8K course.
Right behind Silversmith was reigning GLIAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Brandon Cushman, who took 10th place for the Bulldogs in a time of 25:35.3.
Ferris State's Alex Bladecki came in 13th (25:41.0) with Spencer Gerber placing 15th overall (25:42.3).
Meanwhile, Bill King was 38th (26:21.2), Logan Hammer finished 55th (26:34.2) and Lucas Copi came in 75th (26:47.2) in helping lead the Bulldogs.
A total of 14 Bulldog men's student-athletes took part in the invitational race.
In the women's competition, Ferris State's Samantha Johnson was the individual champion as she clocked 17:25.5 to win the 5K event.
Ferris State senior Anna Rudd was close behind as she came in fourth overall at 17:53.1, giving the Bulldogs a pair of top five performers.
Behind Johnson and Rudd was Jessica Delaney in 63rd place at 19:13.9 with Breeann Ovokaitys taking 69th overall in a time of 19:18.2. Samantha Humphrey wound up 75th (19:21.6) among FSU's top performers in the meet.
Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26, as FSU takes part in the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Houghton, Mich.
