Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team remains ranked 24th this week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II National Poll announced on Monday.
In addition, the Bulldogs are also currently ranked first in the region in the initial NCAA-II Midwest Regional Rankings that came out late last week.
Ferris State, which wraps up regular-season play on the road this week, posted a 2-1 mark last week in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The Bulldogs dropped a road match at rival Grand Valley State on Tuesday before bouncing back to beat Lake Superior State 3-0 at home on Friday along with a 3-2 win over Saginaw Valley State in FSU's final regular-season home match on Saturday.
The results of last week's action were not reflected in the first regional rankings issued by the NCAA. The updated regional listing will be announced later this week.
In this week's national rankings, the Bulldogs received 103 total points to remain 24th in the poll for the third consecutive week. A total of four teams from the region are listed among the top 25 in the country with Grand Valley State 15th, Truman State 23rd and Rockhurt (Mo.) 25th in addition to Ferris State.
The first regional rankings featured a total of five GLIAC member schools along with five from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bulldogs were first followed by GVSU, Southern Indiana, Northwood and Ashland in the top five.
The second five in the regional poll included Lewis (Ill.), Truman, Indianapolis, Hillsdale and Rockhurst.
The nationally 24th-ranked Bulldogs moved to 20-7 overall and 13-3 in the GLIAC with the two wins this past weekend, which included Saturday's "Senior Day" victory over SVSU in which Ferris State honored its two seniors in Angi Kent and Brandie Merren prior to their final regular-season home contests.
The Bulldogs hit the road for their final two GLIAC regular-season contests this weekend. Both are against teams ranked among the region's top 10 as FSU visits Hillsdale on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. (ET) before facing Northwood in Midland on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 3 p.m. (ET).
Ferris State moved into a tie for second place overall in the GLIAC's standings following Saturday's action. Grand valley State holds a two-match lead over FSU, Northwood, Ashland and Northern Michigan as all four teams are tied at 13-3 in the GLIAC to date.
The top four teams in the conference following this weekend's regular-season play will host GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal-round home matches next Wednesday (Nov. 20) with the top remaining seed then hosting the league tourney semifinals and finals on Nov. 23-24.
After regular-season and conference tournament action is complete, the top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament with one school hosting regional action Dec. 5-7.
Ferris State has advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years and reached the regional semifinal round in both campaigns. Overall, the Bulldogs have advanced to the national tournament 17 times in the program's history.
