Ferris State's Angi Kent Claims All-Tourney Team Honors After Missouri Trip

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University volleyball senior middle hitter Angi Kent (Lansing/Waverly) was honored this week by being named to the 2013 Peggy Martin Challenge All-Tournament Team for her efforts in FSU's trip to Missouri last weekend.

The Bulldog senior was among 10 all-tournament team selections from five different schools recognized following the event hosted by Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.

Kent tallied 30 total kills with eight total blocks as the Bulldogs posted a 2-2 mark in the second tournament of the season.  She also hit .300 or better in three of the four matches, including an impressive .529 figure in the finale as the Bulldogs beat Emporia State (Kan.) by a 3-0 score.

The talented middle hitter played in all 14 sets last weekend and reached double-figures in kills with 10 in the 3-0 win over Emporia State.  She also had nine kills versus Winona State (Minn.) as the Bulldogs opened the weekend with a 3-0 sweep in first day action.

Currently this season, Kent has appeared in 27 sets and owns a team-leading .353 attack percentage with 53 kills and 22 total blocks in eight outings.  She is averaging 1.96 kills per set.

With her selection, Kent became the fourth Bulldog player to earn all-tournament team laurels this season as previously the trio of Brandie Merren, Alexis Huntey and Caroline Heitzman were named to the Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team after the Bulldogs' annual season-opening event on Sept. 6-7.

This weekend, Ferris State will return home to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs, who are 5-3 overall to date this campaign, will face longtime GLIAC North Division rival Northwood in the league opener on Friday (Sept. 20) night starting at 7 p.m. (ET).  The Timberwolves also hold an identical 5-3 record this season.

After Friday's encounter against Northwood, the Bulldogs will host another divisional foe in Hillsdale on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon with match time set for 3 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.  The Chargers head into the weekend action with a 3-5 mark at this point in the year.
