Big Rapids, Mich. –Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) of the 2011 Ferris State University women's volleyball team has earned this week's (Oct. 18) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week honor.
The honor comes as a result of her performance this past weekend (Oct. 14-15) in the 2011 Mizuno Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC)/GLIAC Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill. It marks the third time Huntey has received the honor this season as she also earned the nod the first week of the season (Sept. 7) and again on Sept. 26.
The announcement was made by the GLIAC office staff and sponsored by Hit Trophy.
Huntey accounted for 52 of Ferris State's 181 total kills at the weekend tournament. She averaged 4.00 kills, 3.23 digs and 4.35 points per game while coming away from the weekend with a .307 hitting percentage. She had an impressive 19 kills in FSU's 3-1 victory over Lewis (Ill.) on Friday. For the weekend, Huntey tallied 52 kills, 42 digs and six total blocks.
The Ferris State women's volleyball team went 3-1 in the crossover tournament with their lone loss coming in a five set-decision to nationally 13th-ranked Northern Kentucky.
The Bulldogs return home this Saturday (Oct. 22) to take on the Michigan Tech Huskies at 2 p.m. (EDT) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. FSU will then face Northern Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 23) at 2 p.m. (EDT).
Ferris State is currently 17-2 overall this campaign and holds a 11-1 mark in GLIAC action. The Bulldogs are 11-0 at home to date this season.
