Gilchrist Named GLIAC North Player Of Week

Senior Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) of the 2009 Ferris State University women's volleyball team has been chosen as this week's (Sept. 9) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week as a result of leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record in this past weekend's action. The announcement was made this Wednesday (Sept. 9) by the GLIAC Office.
Gilchrist, a middle hitter, produced a .337 attack percentage with a combined 41 kills on 92 attempts in the four matches at the St. Cloud (Minn.) State Tournament last weekend (Sept. 4-5). She also recorded 13 block assists, 20 digs, and five service aces as Ferris State posted a 3-1 tourney mark, which was highlighted by a 3-1 upset victory over nationally fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney last Friday (Sept. 4). In the win versus Nebraska-Kearney, Gilchrist hammered a season-high 14 kills while hitting at a .560 clip to go along with a season-best 11 digs, four service aces, and three block assists.
The weekly conference recognition represents the second for Gilchrist, who received the same accolades in the 2007 season (10/15).
This season in nine matches to date, Gilchrist has generated a team-leading .219 hitting percentage while tallying a squad third-most 79 kills and averaging 2.39 kills per set. She also has chalked up a team second-best 27 total blocks, 10 service aces, and 38 digs for FSU, which currently sports a 6-3 overall ledger this fall. The 6-0 Gilchrist has presently produced four double-digit kill match performances this season.
For her career, Gilchrist is averaging 2.43 kills per game (868 total) while registering a .237 attack percentage in 98 outings. She has served 94 aces while garnering 141 digs and 300 total blocks (42 block solos and 258 block assists). Gilchrist has averaged 3.17 points per set in 357 career sets to date.
Gilchrist presently ranks in 17th place among the program's all-time leaders in block assists (258), 18th in total blocks (300), 19th in kills (868), tied for 20th in block solos (42), and tied for 29th in service aces (94).
Ferris State is in action this Wednesday (Sept. 9) against Davenport University in a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference tilt at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The contest is the first in a current four-match homestand for the 2009 FSU women's volleyball team as the Bulldogs open GLIAC play this Friday (Sept. 11) versus Wayne State at 7 p.m. (EDT).
