Women's Tennis Fifth At GLIAC Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2011-12 schedule by taking fifth place in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 23) at Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs won Sunday's fifth-place match against sixth-seeded Lake Superior State by a 5-0 count at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Fifth-seeded FSU fell to fourth-seeded Ashland in Friday's (Oct. 21) opening round of the event, but was able to win its final two matches following a victory over eighth-seeded Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Oct. 22) and Sunday's triumph against the Lakers.

Ferris State jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play against LSSU as the Bulldogs took all three positions in commanding fashion.

FSU then closed the door on the Lakers by winning the first two completed singles flights at the first and fifth positions.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 10-5 overall this season and Lake Superior State dropped to 13-7 on the year.

The Bulldogs are tentatively slated to open the spring portion of their season at home against Davenport on Feb. 23 at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
