Women's Soccer Drops GLIAC Opener On The Road In Ohio
Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of first half goals led the Ohio Dominican past the Ferris State University women's soccer team in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener for both schools on Friday (Sept. 20) afternoon in Columbus, Ohio, as the Panthers recorded a 3-1 triumph.
Ohio Dominican improved to 4-1-1 overall with the league-opening win while the Bulldogs fell to 1-3 overall with the setback.
ODU struck first at 10:09 of the opening half as Lauren Pratt scored in unassisted fashion via a one-on-one situation from the left corner.
Pratt added her second goal of the contest and third of the season a little over eight minutes later as she found the back of the net at 18:42 off a Kelly Johnson pass into the box from 10-yards out.
Ferris State trimmed the margin to a single goal at 32:53 of the first frame as sophomore Nichole Boehnke notched her first goal of the campaign on a shot in front of the box. FSU's Taylor DiCicco picked up the assist.
However, Ohio Dominican shut down the Bulldogs the rest of the way and added a final goal from Jordan Mazzi in unassisted fashion at 55:44 to account for the final margin.
The Panthers outshot the Bulldogs 14-7 for the contest although FSU had seven shots on goal to only six for Ohio Dominican. FSU also had three corner kick tries compared to two for ODU.
Ohio Dominican's Laura Clark picked up the victory in net as she made six saves to three for FSU freshman Savanna Wojtanowski, who played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Bulldogs.
Ferris State finished with 11 fouls to seven for the Panthers, but ODU was called for offsides four times to none for FSU.
Boehnke paced the Bulldogs with three shots, all of which came on goal, in the contest. Leanne Boehm had a pair of shot attempts for Ferris State.
The Bulldogs continue a four-match league road swing as they visit Ashland on Sunday (Sept. 22) for a 12 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Ashland, Ohio.
