The Ferris State University women's soccer team ended their two game winning streak in a 3-0 loss this Wednesday (Oct. 28) against Saginaw Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
With this conference loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-12-2 overall play and a 3-9-1 conference record. Meanwhile, Saginaw Valley State improves to 13-2-2 overall and 10-1-2 in conference match play.
After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals' Jacylyn Barrett scored all three of Saginaw Valley's goals. The first tally came after the 47 minute mark when Kayla Johnston slotted the ball to Barrett, who kicked it in from the right side.
Barrett's final two goals came within five minutes of each other. The first was at 64:45 off a shot by Tiffany Bell that went through the hands of senior Bulldog goalkeeper Kari Alsager (Mount Pleasant) and was tapped in by Barrett. Barrett would register the last goal of the match at 69:19 mark with a shot from 18 feet out which eluded Alsager.
Sophomore forward Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa), redshirt freshman forward Cassie Aro (Gaines/Linden) and junior forward Carlee Boyle (Lockport, Ill.) each tallied a shot on goal to lead the Bulldogs.
Kari Alsager (2-3-1) finished with two saves in the contest while her counterpart Anne Berschebach of SVSU recorded the shutout by stopping all three FSU shots on goal.
Ferris State concluded the contest with an 12 to 11 shots edge, which included seven shots apiece by both teams in the second half.
The Bulldogs will conclude their 2009 regular season this Friday (Oct. 30) against West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in Big Rapids. A 3 p.m. (EDT) starting time is scheduled for the final regular-season GLIAC match at Top Taggart Field.
