Bowling Green, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad battled NCAA Division I Bowling Green to the finish on Monday (Dec. 18) evening in an 82-73 setback at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The Bulldogs trailed by only a single point, 25-24, following the opening quarter before Bowling Green took a 39-32 halftime edge. However, Ferris State battled back and ultimately was outscored by only two points in the second half against the Falcons, who entered the game with a 7-2 overall record.
Senior forward Rachel McInerney led the Bulldogs with 20 points and pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds in an outstanding double-double effort while junior guard Riley Blair had 17 points. Junior guard Alexis Bush added 12 points and senior guard Leah Humes had 11 in the setback.
Along with McInerney's 18 rebounds, sophomore guard Renee Sturm had eight for the Bulldogs on the glass.
Ferris State shot 39.2% from the floor and went six-of-22 (27.3%) from the three-point arc along with nine-of-18 (50%) at the charity stripe.
Bowling Green's leading scorers were forward Andrea Cecil with 26 points and guard Sydney Lambert with 20 points. The Falcons also got 16 points from Haley Puk and 11 by Carly Santoro.
Overall, Bowling Green made 40.3% of its field goals in addition to hitting eight-of-22 (36.4%) behind the three-point stripe and 24-of-33 (72.7%) at the line.
The Bulldogs managed to outrebound the Falcons 48-43 for the evening and pulled down 16 offensive boards to only nine for Bowling Green, which had beat FSU by 50 points a year ago at the Stroh Center.
Ferris State had 13 turnovers compared to the Falcons' 12 and the Bulldogs finished with 12 assists, seven steals and five blocked shots. Meanwhile, BGSU netted seven assists and six steals with no blocks in the game.
The Bulldogs will break for the holidays before returning to action against Maryville (Mo.) on Saturday, Dec. 30, at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff for the non-league game is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
