Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad claimed a decisive 81-44 road victory over Bethel College in exhibition play on Wednesday (Nov. 1) evening in Mishawaka, Ind.
The Bulldogs handled the Pilots in their first official preseason test as they jumped out to a 23-7 first-quarter edge and led 42-15 at halftime. FSU outscored the hosts in all four quarters en route to the win.
Senior center Rachel McInerney led FSU with a sqaud-high 13 points and five rebounds while FSU also got 10 points apiece from both senior guard Leah Humes and sophomore wing Riley Blair. The Bulldogs' Margo Brown chipped in with nine points while newcomer Adrienne Anderson scored eight points in the win.
Humes recorded seven steals and dished out three assists for the Bulldogs while point guard Emilee Kott added a squad-best five assists.
Ferris State hit 33-of-70 (47%) of its field goals along with six-of-21 (28.6%) three's and nine-of-14 (64.3%) free throws. The Bulldogs notched 22 steals and had 22 assists while owning a 34-29 edge on the glass.
The Bulldogs' 22 steals came on 37 Bethel turnovers and FSU also limited the Pilots to a one-of-four (25%) showing from three-point range. Bethel finished 41% (16-39) from the floor and 47.8% (11-23) at the free throw line.
The Pilots were led by Kelsey Brickner's game-high 15 points.
Ferris State will open the regular-season on Nov. 10-11 in Pepper Pike, Ohio. FSU faces host Ursuline (Ohio) in the season opener on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. (ET) before squaring off against Davis & Elkins on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. (ET) in the reginal event.
