Late Run Pushes Ferris State To Season Sweep Over Wayne State In GLIAC North
Detroit, Mich. - Clutch late shots and free throws propelled the Ferris State University women's basketball team to a 71-67 road victory over the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday, (Feb. 4) at Matthaei Arena.

Junior forward Rachel McInerney and redshirt freshman forward Riley Blair each led the way with a double-double apiece. Blair led in scoring with 23 points and added 10 rebounds, while McInerney chipped in 21 points and 17 rebounds in the winning effort.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass, with 49 rebounds to Wayne State's 24 over the contest. 
Ferris State and Wayne State played the opening 20 minutes to a 32-32 dead heat. Ferris State Shot 48.1 percent in the opening half with Wayne State shooting 37.5 percent.

Redshirt freshman forward Riley Blair carried the Bulldogs with 12 points, shooting 5-8 from the field in the first half, with junior forward Rachel McInerney going for eight points and 10 rebound in the first two quarters alone.

In the third quarter, the Warriors pulled ahead at the end and took a 49-47 lead into the final frame.

Ferris State outscored Wayne State 24-18 in the fourth quarter to slip ahead with some key late free throws and shots for the victory.

The Warriors were led by Nastassja Chambers and her 19 points, while Shannon Wilson added 17 off the bench. Wayne State outscored Ferris State's bench 23-9 in the contest and outscored the Bulldogs 11-0 on fast break points

The largest disparity in scoring was in the paint, where Ferris State had a 20 point edge at 38-18 for the contest.

While Ferris State owned the glass, Wayne State played the part of thief with 11 steals to Ferris State's three in the game, as the Bulldogs committed 17 total turnovers.

Junior guard Leah Humes was the only other Bulldog in double-digit points with 12.

The see-saw affair featured 14 lead changes and six tie scores throughout the game, with the Bulldogs taking the final quarter, hitting 14-17 free throws in the fourth alone. 

Ferris State returns home to take on Lake Superior State on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Wink Arena for a 6 pm EST tip-off in Big Rapids.
