Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday (Feb. 21) night as the Bulldogs suffered a 80-61 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) loss to divisional leader Wayne State in North Division action at the Matthaei Complex in Detroit.
Wayne State used a late first half run to grab a 41-34 lead at the break and took control early in the final half en route to outscoring FSU 39-27 over the final 20 minutes.
FSU fell to 13-10 overall and 12-8 in the GLIAC North with the loss while Wayne State remained atop the division with an 18-5 overall record to go with a 16-3 conference slate.
Ferris State was limited to only 27.9% shooting for the day and was four-of-18 (22.2%) beyond the three-point stripe along with 23-of-30 (76.7%) at the line.
On the opposite side, Wayne State hit 46.8% of its field goals and connected on 50% of its three's by making nine-of-18 overall. The Warriors were 13-of-24 (54.2%) at the charity stripe.
Brittany Streetman paced the Warriors with a game-high 20 points and nailed five three's in the game to lead WSU. Phaebre Colbert also had an impressive game with 19 points and a contest-high 18 rebounds in a double-double effort.
Ferris State was led by junior guard Sarah DeShone's 11 points. Junior forward Ashley Rando added 10 points off the bench, including a seven-of-eight showing at the free throw line.
Redshirt freshman guard Katie Mavis added nine points in the contest for FSU while sophomore center Hannah Hoffman scored eight points and senior guard Kylie Muntz totaled seven points for the Bulldogs.
Overall, Wayne State held a decisive 56-32 rebounding edge and grabbed 19 offensive boards to only 12 for the Bulldogs. FSU did force 17 WSU turnovers and had only 11 of its own in the setback.
The victory was Wayne State's ninth in a row this year and came in the school's regular-season home finale at the Matthaei Complex. It was also the Warriors' second over the Bulldogs this season.
Ferris State had won 14 of the last 18 matchups overall between the two teams coming into the game prior to the setback.
Ferris State will play its regular-season home finale on Saturday, Feb. 23, versus Saginaw Valley State at Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff will follow the men's game at approximately 3 p.m. (ET). It will also serve as FSU's annual Senior Day game as the Bulldogs will honor the 2012-13 senior class as part of the day's activities.
