FSU Players Pick Up All-GLIAC Kudos
Four Ferris State University student-athletes have attained
All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)
basketball kudos for the 2008-09 season as the league announced its
respective all-conference teams on Thursday (March 5) evening.
The women's awards were presented in conjunction with the GLIAC
Women's Basketball Tournament at Houghton, Mich., while the men's
honorees were announced at the GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament in
Findlay, Ohio.
Sophomore forward/center Justin Keenan (Grand
Rapids/Ottawa Hills) of the men's squad attained All-GLIAC
First Team honors for the 2008-09 campaign in voting conducted by
the conference's head coaches. He was one of five players named to
the GLIAC North Division First Team.
Meanwhile, Bulldog sophomore guard Darien Gay
(Detroit/Henry Ford) was recognized as an All-GLIAC North
Division Second Team selection.
The FSU women's squad also had a second team all-conference pick
in senior guard Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia)
in the North Division.
Finally, women's basketball senior forward/center Ashley
Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) earned GLIAC North Division
All-Defensive Team honors.
This year's recognition represented the first time all four
players have attained GLIAC postseason accolades.
The Bulldog men's squad finished the year with a 14-14 overall
record after falling in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals by a
67-49 count at rival Grand Valley State on Tuesday (March 3)
evening in Allendale, Mich.
The FSU women, who are currently 13-14 overall this season, will
take on nationally-ranked Michigan Tech in Friday's (March 6) GLIAC
Tournament Semifinals at Houghton, Mich. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
(EST). The FSU women upset third-seeded Northwood 73-68 in
Tuesday's first round action at Midland, Mich.
