Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball program and first-year head coach Kristin Janes has announced the Bulldogs' 2018 winter softball camps, which will take place in the month of January and February in Big Rapids.

Details and dates on each of the camps can be found below along with a registration form.

To register for an individual Bulldog Winter Camp, please email Head Coach Kristin Janes, Janesk@ferris.edu , with the camp registration form and medical forms attached. Payment for camps must be received 10 days prior to the camp date to hold your spot in the camp. If payment is not received by specified date, those spots will be opened back up for new enrollment. Checks can be written out to Ferris State Softball and payment be can be mailed to:

Individual Camps Information

Sunday, January 7th – Instructional Camp

  • Designed for high school and travel ball players ages 14-18, looking to increase their skill and knowledge of the game of softball
  • Offensive, Defensive- Infield & Outfield, & Base Running instruction will be provided for each camper
  • Recruiting Question & Answer Session
  • Cost: $60/Camper, payment due by December 28th
  • Max Campers: 60
  • Will run 10:00am-2:00pm

Sunday, January 14th – Elite Showcase Camp

  • Designed for high school and travel ball players, looking to showcase their talent to Ferris State University and be recruited at the next level
  • Offensive, Defensive & Base Running Evaluation provided for each camper
  • Pitching & Catching Evaluation provided for each applicable camper
  • Play 1 Live Game w/ Ferris State Softball Players & Staff as coaches and officials
  • Recruiting Question & Answer Session
  • Max Campers: 60
  • Cost: $80, payment due by January 4th   
  • Will run 10:00am-5:00pm

Saturday, January 20th - Youth Instructional Camp

  • Designed for Elementary and Middle School/Junior High aged players, 6-13, looking for instruction in all areas of the game
  • Tips for building skill while working independently
  • Cost: $50/Camp, payment due by January 20th
  • Max Campers: 60
  • Will run 11:00am-3:00pm

Sunday, February 18th- Pitching Camp (NOTE DATE CHANGE)
*Registrations accepted up to Feb. 17

  • Session 1: Beginners- Recommended for elementary/lower junior high aged pitchers with little pitching experience
  • Learn the basic mechanics of fast pitch softball pitching. The fundamentals of each phase of the pitching motion will be covered.
  • $30/Camper, payment due by February 1st
  • Need to bring your own catcher, if you use the 11" ball & have one, please bring it
  • 1 ½ hours of pitching instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • 1-3:30 pm
  • Maximum of 24 pitchers
  • Session 2: Intermediate- Recommended for junior high aged pitchers with experience in the fundamentals of pitching. Must be able to throw a fast ball consistently for a strike.
  • Learn to continue developing proper pitching mechanics as well as learn or refine the changed up.
  • $40/Camper, payment due by February 1st  
  • Need to bring your own catcher
  •  2 ½ hours of pitching instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • 1-3:30 pm
  • Maximum of 24 pitchers
  • Session 3: Advanced- Recommended for high school aged pitchers with experience in the advanced techniques of pitching. Must be able to throw a fast ball and change-up consistently for a strike.
  • Learn and refine the mechanics of breaking pitches and develop the proper technique for each.
  • $50/Camper, payment due by February 1st
  • Need to bring your own catcher
  • 2 ½ hours of pitching instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • 9:30 am - 12 pm
  • Maximum of 24 pitchers

 

Sunday, February 18th- Catching Camp (NOTE DATE CHANGE)
*Registrations accepted up to Feb 17

Session 1: Beginner/Intermediate- Recommended for upper elementary/junior high aged catchers with interest or basic experience in the position of catching.  

  • Learn to develop the proper catching stance, throwing and receiving fundamentals, and blocking techniques.
  • $40/Camper, payment due by February 1st  
  • 2 ½ hours of catching instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • 1-3:30 pm
  • Maximum of 20 catchers
  • Session 2: Advanced- Recommended for high school aged catchers with experience in proper catching techniques at the competition levels of high school and/or travel ball. This is for catchers wanting to learn more advanced methods of catching
  • Learn to refine catching stance, throw from knees and feet, framing fundamentals, blocking techniques and bunt footwork.
  • $50/Camper, payment due by February 1st  
  • 2.5 hours of catching instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • 9:30 am - 12 pm
  • Maximum of 20 catchers

 

Sunday, February 18th- Hitting Camp
*Registrations accepted up to Feb 17

  • Session 1: Basic- Recommended for newer hitters, ages 6-10 with limited experience in softball
  • Learn the core fundamentals of the softball swing
  • $40/Camper, payment due by February 8th  
  • 2 hours of hitting instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • Maximum of 30 hitters
  • 9:00am-11:30am
  • Session 2: Intermediate- Recommended for hitters ages 9-13 with moderate softball experience in the fundamentals of hitting and competition participation
  • Learn more advanced mechanical techniques of the softball swing, working to maximize power in each individual swing
  • $50/Camper, payment due by February 8th  
  • 2 ½ hours of hitting instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • Maximum of 30 hitters
  • 9:00am-11:30am
  • Session 3: Advanced- Recommended for hitters ages 13+ with consistent softball experience at the high school or travel ball levels
  • Learn to develop the triple threat hitter, which includes hitting for power, hitting for average and hitting for team success
  • $55/Camper, payment due by February 8th  
  • 2 ½ hours of hitting instruction by Ferris State Coaches & Players
  • Maximum of 30 hitters
  • 12:30pm-3:00pm

 

Team Camps Information

  • Max Teams: 6, maximum 15 players per team
