Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior designated player Amy Dunleavy (Canton) has been tabbed as this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Player of the Week.
The announcement was made on Monday (April 8) by the conference office and came after an impressive week of action for the Bulldog junior.
Dunleavy led the Bulldogs as FSU split four league contests this past week. In the four games, she recorded a team-high .556 batting average and had a team-best 11 RBI's and an impressive 1.556% slugging percentage.
She belted three home runs in a doubleheader home sweep over Lake Superior State on Wednesday (April 3), which included a grand slam home run to help the Bulldogs rally back from a 2-0 deficit and take the lead in game two. At the plate, Dunleavy turned the tide in the game as she belted a grand slam in the top of the third to give the Bulldogs the advantage. She added a two-run homer in the game as well and posted seven RBI's in game two on two hits while scoring three times after driving in four runs in the opener.
Dunleavy posted five hits and scored five runs along with a sacrifice hit for the week in nine at-bats. She also drew four walks and had 14 total bases.
Her selection this week marks the first time this season in which the Bulldogs have had a player honored as the GLIAC's Player or Pitcher of the Week.
Ferris State returns to action on Wednesday, April 10, as the Bulldogs host Northwood in a league twinbill at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids if weather permits. Game one is set for a 3:30 p.m. (ET) start with the second contest to follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. (ET).
Currently, the Timberwolves are in second place in the league standings and handed GVSU its only league loss of the year to date.
