For the third straight time this spring, the 2010 Ferris State University softball team occupies the 10th-place position in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Rankings. The regional poll was released this Wednesday (April 28) by the NCAA-II Softball Committee.
Ferris State was also listed 10th in the previous two (April 14 and 21) regional rankings polls.
The Bulldogs are presently 24-16 overall with a 15-9 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) this season under 13th-year head coach Keri Becker. FSU has won seven of its last 10 encounters to date, which included a two-game road conference sweep at nationally 17th-ranked Saginaw Valley State last Saturday (April 24) and a league doubleheader split at ninth-ranked Wayne State last Sunday (April 25).
The top eight teams in each of the eight NCAA-II regions will qualify for NCAA Regional Tournament competition. The top two teams within each region will have an opportunity to host a sub-regional tournament on May 14-16. The winners of each sub-regional will play each other in the super regional (May 21-22) with the winner advancing to the 2010 NCAA-II Softball Championships (May 27-31) at Heritage Park in St. Joseph, Mo.
The eight regions consist of Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast, and West.
Selections to the NCAA-II Regional Championships will be announced on Monday, May 10, at 10 a.m. (EDT) via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.
Ferris State will close out the regular-season portion of its 2010 schedule this Saturday (May 1) versus the Grand Valley State Lakers with a pair of GLIAC games in Allendale, Mich.
