Ferris State Track & Field Runs Several "Personal Bests" & Notches 22 Top-20 Finishes At GVSU Big Meet

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads resumed action this past weekend as the Bulldogs took part in one of the nation's largest collegiate meets, the Grand Valley State "Big Meet", which was held at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale.

The two-day event annually attracts some of the top collegiate standouts in the country from a wide range of programs.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished with a combined total of 22 top-20 finishes at the prestigious event.

In Friday's action, FSU's Molly Emerick took 17th place in the 800 meters while reaching an NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time with a performance of 2:13.72 overall.

FSU also had a pair of finishers in the top 35 of the women's 5,00 meters with Racheal McDonald 22nd (17:49.01) and Kathryn Etelamaki coming in 32nd (17:56.58) overall.

Senior Logan Hammer led the Bulldog men's squad in first day action on Friday as he took 48th place in the mile run (4:31.70).

In Saturday's action, the Bulldogs' Sarah Utchel placed eighth in the 60 meters (7.95) with a personal-best time while coming in 13th overall with another personal-best in the 200 meters (25.92).

FSU's Emily Haynes captured fifth place in the 3,000 meters (10:16.18) with Natalie Perry seventh in the mile run (5:09.91). Etelamaki was 11th in the 3,000 meters (10:25.82) with McDonald 14th (10:32.20). Emerick also ran on Saturday and placed 15th in the 400 meters (58.77).

The Bulldogs also got a 17th-place performance and personal-best from Hanna Price in the women's 60-meter hurdles (9.50) and an 18th-place showing by Maycee Robinson in the weight throw (51-0.75) while the 4x400-meter relay squad of Jennifer Eaton, Larissa Medich, Cheyanna Rizor and Price came in 12th (4:37.11).

On the men's side, Cody Stillwell again reached the NCAA Division II National qualifying standard in the weight throw with a toss of 58-10.75 in earning runner-up honors. Jon Cok was sixth in the high jump (6-4.75) with Hammer placing sixth in the 3,000 meters (8:43.50).

FSU also received a ninth-place finish from Hayden Francisco in the finals of the 60 meters (7.33) along with a ninth-place performance from the 4x400-meter relay tandem of Lucas Harris, Nate Meyer, Hunter Redman and Chris Triffo as the unit clocked 3:35.59 in the race.

The Bulldogs' Ja'Juan Pollock was 12th in the prelims of the 60 meters (7.17) with Ross Miller taking 12th place in the shot put (47-9.75) in addition to 14th place in the weight throw (50-9.25). Brett Allpow came in 16th in the weight throw (50-6) and 19th in the shot put (46-7.5) while John Alberts placed 20th in the 800 meters and came in under two minutes (1:58.80).

Ferris State returns to Allendale for the GVSU Tune-Up met on Friday (Feb. 17) before the GLIAC Indoor Championships are held Feb. 25-26 in Findlay, Ohio.
