Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to a halt on Tuesday (April 5) as the Bulldogs suffered a 6-3 setback to Wayne State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The host Warriors came out and won two of the three doubles matches against FSU at the PeachTree Tennis Club in Clinton Township. They then won four of six singles flights, including a pair of third-set tiebreakers, to take the win.
Overall, five of the six singles matches went to three sets as FSU fell to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the GLIAC standings. WSU improved to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
The match was the final GLIAC regular-season encounter for the Bulldogs.
WSU entered the match ranked 37th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Rankings with FSU listed 41st in the country.
The two teams are also listed among the region's top six overall as WSU sits fifth and FSU sixth.
Ferris State hits the road for two important non-conference regional matches this week. The Bulldogs visit Lewis (Ill.), which is ranked seventh in the region, on Friday (April 8) for a 2 p.m. (ET) tilt in Romeoville, Ill.
FSU ill then square off against regionally third-ranked Southern Indiana on Saturday (April 9) at the same site in a 12 p.m. (ET) contest.
