Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team officially unveiled its upcoming 2017-18 schedule on Thursday (May 4) in conjunction with the release of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) composite slate by the conference office and the schedule is filled with marquee contests against both in-state and league rivals.

The Bulldogs, who have reached the NCAA Final Eight three times since 2012, will embark on their 43rd campaign this coming fall and again face perhaps one of the country's toughest schedules as they seek their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last seven years.

The 2017-18 schedule is again highlighted by matchups against every other in-state Division I opponent from Michigan, including non-conference showdowns against Michigan, Michigan State and Western Michigan. Five of the six will make the trek to FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena, including home-and-home series' against both MSU and WMU, while the Bulldogs will face Michigan twice in Ann Arbor.

Overall, the Bulldogs will play host to five of the other six D1 programs from Michigan this coming year. It will represent the second-straight year in which the Bulldogs have faced every Michigan opponent in the same campaign after doing so this past season for the first time since 1995-96.

Along with the premier matchups against the in-state foes, the Bulldogs will also entertain challenging conference rivals such as Bemidji State and Bowling Green as part of a 16-game regular-season home schedule.

"This schedule will be another big test as we face some of the top teams in the country on a nightly basis," said FSU head coach and two-time National Coach of the Year Bob Daniels, who will embark on his 26th season at the helm this coming year. "I know both our returning players and our fans will be thrilled to welcome so many high-quality opponents to our home rink and the challenges we will face both at home and on the road should make for an exciting and entertaining season."

The Bulldogs will open up the 2017-18 campaign with a non-conference home-and-home series against longtime in-state rival Western Michigan. FSU begins the season in Kalamazoo on Oct. 6 before the Broncos pay the return visit the following night for the Bulldogs' home opener on Oct. 7.

Following the season-opening series against the Broncos, the Bulldogs will host Northern Michigan for their first two WCHA contests on Oct. 13-14 in Big Rapids.

The three-game home stretch is followed by a grueling six-game road swing as the Bulldogs visit Mercyhurst for a two-game non-league set on Oct. 20-21 before traveling to defending WCHA Champion Bemidji State on Oct. 27-28. The Bulldogs wrap up the road swing against Michigan at Yost Ice Arena on Nov. 3-4.

FSU then returns home to play three of its next four games at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. Ferris State will entertain Alaska for league action on Nov. 10-11 before squaring off against Michigan State in a home-and-home set on Nov. 17-18. The opening game is on Friday night in East Lansing at Munn Ice Arena before the two teams return to Big Rapids the following evening.

After the series against the Spartans, Ferris State closes November with a league trip to Alabama-Huntsville (Nov. 24-25) before playing four-straight WCHA games at home in early December versus Alaska-Anchorage (Dec. 1-2) and Michigan Tech (Dec. 8-9). The final two games before the holiday break are at NMU on Dec. 15-16.

In the second half of the campaign, the Bulldogs begin by hosting Bowling Green on Jan. 6-7 before playing the first two of four regular-season games against Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie on Jan. 12-13. FSU then hosts Bemidji State on Jan. 19-20 before closing the month back on the road at Michigan Tech on Jan. 26-27.

The final month of the regular season will see Ferris State play a pair of road series' at Alaska on Feb. 2-3 followed by a visit to Minnesota State on Feb. 16-17 before closing out the regular-season on home ice against LSSU in Big Rapids on Feb. 23-24.

"This schedule will be a tremendous challenge and one that will certainly test our team this coming year," said Daniels. "Both in and out of the conference race, the excitement generated on the ice should make it especially entertaining for the fans."

The top four teams again following league regular-season action will host the opening round of the WCHA Playoffs March 2-4 with the winner of each best-of-three series advancing to the league semifinals. The semifinals will be a best-of-three series on campus sites March 9-11 with the two remaining teams squaring off for the WCHA's Broadmoor Trophy in a single game on Saturday, March 17, at the highest seed.

NCAA Regional action will be held again this coming year at four sites March 23-25 with the 2018 Frozen Four set for April 5 & 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn.
