Big Rapids, Mich. - A NCAA Selection Show "watch party" will
take place this Sunday, March 23, at BUffalo Wild Wings in Big
Rapids for the nationally fourth-ranked Ferris State University
men's ice hockey team and all Bulldog fans, alumni and friends are
invited to attend this special event.
The 30-minute selection show of the 16-team NCAA Division I Tournament field will be broadcast live on ESPNU this Sunday, starting at 12 p.m. (ET). In anticipation of this event, Buffalo Wild Wings will be having a "Selection Show" watch party with Bulldog players and staff on hand. Fans are invited to come out beginning at 11 a.m. and leading up to the live announcement.
If selected as anticipated, Ferris State will be making its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's history. The Bulldogs' 2002-03 team earned the program's first-ever berth and was among the national tourney's final eight teams before FSU's 2011-12 squad won the Midwest Regional Championship and reached the national championship game at the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time two seasons ago.
The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team, which claimed the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Regular-Season Championship for its second conference crown in the last three years this season, remains one of the favorites to receive an NCAA Division I Tournament at-large bid regardless of whether the Bulldogs win the WCHA Final Five Championship in Grand Rapids this weekend.
The Bulldogs are currently tied for third in the PairWise Rankings following weekend playoff action. The PairWise ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I Tournament. Therefore, if the tournament were to start tomorrow, the Bulldogs would potentially be among the 16 selected teams that make the field.
FSU presently has the nation's most wins in the nation to date this year with 27 and holds the country's fourth-best winning percentage this campaign.
The winners of six conference tournaments around the country will receive their league's automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament, which means at least 10 other slots are available for at-large teams pending the results of league tournament action.
The 2014 NCAA Men's Division 1 Ice Hockey Championship tournament will open the weekend of March 28-30 with four regionals. On Friday and Saturday, the NCAA East Regional will be held at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT while the NCAA Midwest Regional will be played at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH.
Meanwhile, on Saturday and Sunday, the NCAA Northeast Regional will be held at DCU Center in Worcester, MA and the NCAA West Regional will be at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.
The four regional winners will then advance to the 2014 NCAA Men's Frozen Four to be contested Thursday, April 10 and Saturday, April 12, at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA.
ESPNU is available on DirectTV channel 208, DISH Network channel 141, and available on many cable systems (check your local listings).
The Bulldogs can claim the WCHA's automatic bid into the national tournament by winning the Broadmoor Trophy, which will go to the winner of this weekend's WCHA Final Five Championship at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The top-seeded Bulldogs will face Alaska Anchorage on Friday (March 21) night at 7:07 p.m. (ET) with the winner advancing to Saturday's (March 22) title contest scheduled for the same time.
