Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will continue its quest for the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Regular-Season Championship at home this weekend and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance due to high demand.
The Bulldogs will square off against Alaska-Anchorage for the first time since 1988 inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena on both Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21-22) night starting at 7:07 p.m. (ET). FSU is presently ranked fifth this week in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Online Poll along with sixth in the USCHO.com National Rankings.
Currently, Ferris State and Minnesota State are tied atop the league standings with 34 total points each although FSU owns two games in hand on the Mavericks with only six games left on the Bulldogs' regular-season schedule. This weekend's opponent, the Seawolves, climbed into third place overall in the WCHA this past weekend.
As part of the weekend activities, on Friday night FSU will recognize the Bulldogs' volleyball team which reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last fall along with a local Special Olympics Poly Hockey State Championship Team. Saturday's series' finale will represent "International Night" with the Bulldogs partnering with the Office of International Education on campus for the special promotional theme featuring giveaways, education and performances.
Large crowds are expected again this weekend with already less than 300 tickets remaining for Saturday night's series' finale. FSU has sold out three of its last four home games inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena this year and nearly reached the sellout mark in the other contest.
Overall, FSU has posted 14 sellouts since the second half of the historic 2011-12 season in which FSU reached the Frozen Four and the national championship game.
Limited tickets currently remain for both games in the single-game and group sales categories with the "Dawg Pound" student section already sold out for both contests in what will represent the 46th and 47th consecutive sellouts of the Ferris State student section.
