Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive week, a Ferris State University men's ice hockey skater has claimed Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Player of the Week recognition as junior defenseman Jason Binkley has received this week's defensive nod.

Binkley, who played a key role in Ferris State's two-game sweep of Bemidji State last weekend in the Bulldogs' first-ever WCHA home series, has been named the WCHA Men's Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 12, 2013.

A 5-9, 191-pound junior from Powell, Ohio, Binkley posted an impressive +5 plus/minus rating and topped his team with four blocked shots, four series points (1 goal, 3 assists), and 10 shots on goal as the first-place Bulldogs remained unbeaten in WCHA play at 4-0-0.

Named the First Star of the Game after last Friday's (Nov. 8) victory over the Beavers, Binkley's goal was the overtime game-winner as Ferris State notched a 5-4 win at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. He earlier assisted on a first period tally that tied the game at a goal apiece.

Then, in the series finale on Saturday (Nov. 9) night, Binkley contributed two assists, including one on teammate Scott Czarnowczan's game-winner while earning Third Star of the Game honors.

The two wins pushed the Bulldogs' winning streak to five-straight games and vaulted them five spots this week in the national rankings to number 14 in the country.

In addition to Binkley, Ferris State's Andy Huff was a nominee for Offensive Player of the Week recognition while freshman Gerald Mayhew was among the potential honorees for the Rookie of the Week Award.

The Bulldogs, who are currently in first place in the WCHA with a 7-2 overall record and perfect 4-0 league slate, host the Bowling Green Falcons in a two-game set this weekend at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. The series gets underway on Friday (Nov. 15) night with the finale on Saturday (Nov. 16). Both games are set for 7:07 p.m. (ET) puck drops.

Bowling Green will enter the weekend series tied for second place in the league standings as the Falcons hold a 5-3-2 overall record and a 3-1-0 mark in league action.  FSU holds a current two-point lead over BGSU atop the WCHA.

The Bulldogs are presently coming off back-to-back weekend sweeps of Alabama-Huntsville and Bemidji State in their first two weeks of WCHA action. FSU is ranked 14th this week in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) National Poll along with 15th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll.  BGSU is among those teams receiving national votes in both polls.
