Ferris State Hockey's "Drop The Puck Night" Set For Oct. 1

The third annual preseason "Drop The Puck Night" highlighting the upcoming 2010-11 seasons for both the Ferris State University men's ice hockey and Big Rapids High School hockey teams will be held Friday, Oct. 1, from 6-8 p.m. (EDT) at the Falcon Head Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

The event is being presented by the FSU Blueline Club and sponsored by Independent Bank of Big Rapids.  Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under which includes dinner and beverage.

The "Drop The Puck" Night will feature upcoming season previews from Bulldog hockey head coach Bob Daniels and Big Rapids High School varsity hockey head coach Tim Blashill.  Selected student-athletes on the 2010-11 Bulldog hockey team will also speak and provide their insight for the upcoming campaign.

"I would like to invite all Bulldog and Cardinal hockey fans to attend," said Daniels, who will enter his 19th year at Ferris State this 2010-11 season and is the program's all-time winningest coach.  "This fun-filled event provides a special opportunity to reach out to more hockey fans in the surrounding areas while also giving hockey fans a chance to interact with one another and our student-athletes."

Tickets for the event may be purchased at the FSU Athletics Ticket Office, which is located in the lobby arena of the Ewigleben Ice Arena, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT).  For those fans wishing to attend who live outside the Big Rapids area, please reserve your seat by calling (231) 591-2888 and asking for Hailey Patterson.  Tickets then can be paid for and picked up at the door on the evening of the event but the preference is to purchase your tickets in advance to help ensure an accurate attendance count for this special event.

Ferris State will open its 33rd season of intercollegiate competition at the NCAA Division I level Saturday, Oct. 2, with an exhibition contest versus Ontario Institute of Technology in Big Rapids.  A 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start is slated for the contest at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena.  The puck officially drops for Ferris State's 2010-11 season the following weekend, Oct. 7-8, as the Bulldogs visit Alabama-Huntsville for a two-game non-league series in Huntsville, Ala.  FSU's home-opening series will be held Oct. 15-16 as the St. Lawrence Saints provide the opposition in a pair of 7:05 p.m. (EDT) encounters.

The Bulldogs posted a 21-13-6 overall record, which included a third-place 13-9-6-(4) mark (49 league points) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action, for the 2009-10 season.  The 21 victories marked a tie for the fourth most single-season victories in the program's history.
