Ferris State has compiled a 17-14-5 overall record this season and wrapped up CCHA regular-season play with a fifth place 12-12-4-3 CCHA mark. The Bulldogs, under the direction of 19th-year head coach Bob Daniels, are listed among teams receiving votes in this week's (March 7) U.S. College Hockey Online.com poll. FSU is one of the nation's top defensive teams as the Bulldogs currently rank first in the nation for penalty-kill efficiency (89.2%) and are third in scoring defense (2.14 gpg.). Senior goaltender Pat Nagle (17-12-5, 1.97 GAA, .924sv%), a 2010-11 All-CCHA First-Team selection and a 2010-11 Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidate, is listed fourth among the national leaders in goals-against average (1.97 gpg.), 10th in saves percentage (.924), and is 30th in winning percentage (.574). Senior left wing Mike Embach, who ranks second in team scoring with 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists this season, has tallied a nation-leading five short-handed lamplighters this campaign. Another senior, defenseman Zach Redmond also earned 2010-11 All-CCHA First-Team laurels and has registered a team-leading 20 points on seven goals with 13 assists.
Western Michigan is 16-10-10 overall and posted a 10-9-9-5 (fourth place -- 44 pts.) mark in the CCHA this campaign. The Broncos, who have registered an 11-4-3 mark at home this campaign, are presently ranked 14th by Inside College Hockey.com (INCH) while being listed 15th in both the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
