The nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team's success this 2009-10 season has attracted the attention of many college hockey enthusiasts throughout the nation and the Detroit Free Press has taken notice with a published article.

The article, which has the headline "Ferris State: One of CCHA's big wheels", is written by Detroit Free Press Sports Writer George Sipple and is featured in the sports section of this Friday's (Jan. 15) edition.

Ferris State has currently registered a 16-4-2 overall record with a first-place tying 10-2-2-2 mark in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).  The Bulldogs' record this campaign represents the program's second best to date, trailing only the 1979-80 team's 17-5-0 mark through the first 22 contests.  Ferris' performance on the ice this season is better than the record-setting 2002-03 squad which went 16-5-1 in its initial 22 games en route to producing a 31-10-1 overall mark to go with a CCHA regular-season championship title and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

FSU, which is coached by 18th-year head coach Bob Daniels, is 11-1-2 in its last 14 contests to date and is midst a school-record 12 league game unbeaten streak at 10-0-2 in CCHA encounters.  The Bulldogs are also undefeated at home this season with a program-best tying 11-0-0 ledger at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs made their top 10 debut this week (Jan. 11) in all three national college hockey polls, which includes a season-high sixth-place ranking by U.S. College Hockey Online.com (USCHO).  FSU is listed seventh in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine's poll while the Bulldogs are ranked 10th according to Inside College Hockey.com (INCH)

Ferris State will be skating in its biggest series of this 2009-10 season to date this weekend (Jan. 15-16) as the Bulldogs entertain the nationally second-ranked and CCHA co-leader Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in a battle for sole possession of first place in the league standings.  The pivotal two-game set gets underway this Friday (Jan. 15) at 7:05 p.m. (EST) before concluding on Saturday (Jan. 16) with the puck dropping at 5:05 p.m. (EST).  For ticket information, please call (231) 591-2888.  Both CCHA contests will be held at the Ewigleben Ice Arena on the Ferris State University campus.
