Nagle and Redmond Receive CCHA Weekly Awards

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has selected Ferris State University men's ice hockey team members, Pat Nagle (Bloomfield) as its Reebok Goaltender of the Week and Zach Redmond (Traverse City) as its Defenseman of the Week.  The announcement was made this Monday (Dec. 14) by the league office.

The two juniors helped the nationally-ranked Bulldogs post a home-and-home league series sweep of Western Michigan this last weekend (Dec. 11-12).  With the victories, Ferris State has currently compiled a 13-3-2 overall record with a third-place 8-2-2-2 CCHA mark.

Nagle recorded his second career shutout in the Bulldogs' 3-0 series-opening victory at Western Michigan last Friday (Dec. 11).  He turned away all 22 of WMU's shots on goal, which included 10 second-period saves en route to being named the game's third star.

This season, Nagle has produced a 4-2-1 record with a 1.59 goals-against average (12 goals allowed) and a .940 saves percentage (188 saves) as a starter in all eight games played.  The 6-2, 174-pound netminder has compiled at least 20 saves in a contest on six occasions this campaign, which includes a season-high 39 stops at nationally-ranked Miami earlier this season (Nov. 14).

A 2007-08 CCHA All-Rookie Honorable Mention Team selection, Nagle has a 19-20-4 career mark in net with a 2.55 goals-against average (109 goals allowed) and a .911 saves percentage (1,118 saves) in 46 appearances.

Redmond, a 6-2, 201-pound defenseman, netted all of his points in Saturday's (Dec. 12) 4-3 home decision over the Broncos with a season-high three-point game performance.  He picked up an assist on Ferris State's first two goals in the contest before tallying a power-play lamplighter all in the opening period.  Redmond, who was chosen as the game's third star, also had a blocked shot in the outing and played a key role in the Bulldogs' .909 penalty-kill efficiency (10-11).  The two-time (2008-09 and 2009-10) CCHA Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention Team member netted a plus two efficiency rating in last Friday's (Dec. 11) series opener at Western Michigan.  He was tabbed CCHA Defenseman of the Week earlier this season (Oct. 26).

Redmond currently ranks third among Ferris State's scoring leaders this season with 15 points on two goals and 13 assists in 18 games.  He has totaled 20 blocked shots and a plus seven efficiency rating to go with three multiple-point single-game outings.

For his career, Redmond has amassed 58 points with 11 goals and 47 assists in 93 outings.  He has totaled a career five power-play goals, one short-handed marker, two game-winning lamplighters, and 129 blocked shots while generating a plus 21 efficiency rating.

Ferris State, under 18th-year head coach Bob Daniels, is off to its best start since the 1979-80 campaign (14-4-0 record).  Furthermore, the Bulldogs' 11-0-0 home ledger this season ties a school single-season record for most consecutive home victories which was originally established in the 1979-80 season.

The Bulldogs are currently idle until the 2010 New Year when FSU will make its third-ever appearance in Wisconsin's 21st annual Badger Hockey Showdown (Jan. 2-3) at UW's Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.  Ferris State, which claimed consecutive Badger Hockey Showdown championship titles in 2003 and 2004, will go up against the Yale Bulldogs in one semifinal-round matchup on Saturday, Jan. 1, while host Wisconsin takes on Merrimack in the other semifinal tilt.  The third-place game followed by the championship contest will take place on Sunday, Jan. 3.
