Three unanswered goals by Wilfred Laurier (Ontario) was enough to lead the visiting Golden Hawks to a 3-1 victory over the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team this Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon in an exhibition contest at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

Wilfred Laurier, which entered today's game on the heels of a one-sided 7-3 loss at Bowling Green State in a Saturday (Oct. 3) matinee, scored 3:48 into the contest on Chad Kennedy's shot from just inside the blueline past senior goaltender Jordan Barber (Caledonia).  The Golden Hawks would go up 2-0 in the first frame as Jean-Michel Rizk's slapshot from above the right circle went into the Ferris State goal with 6:14 remaining in the initial stanza.

Despite outshooting the visitors 22-9 in the second period, the Bulldogs allowed a Wilfrid Laurier goal as Ryan Bellows took a pass from Jordan Bonneville on the left side and fired a shot beyond junior goaltender Pat Nagle's (Bloomfield Hills) reach.   Ferris State was able to get on the scoreboard and make it a 3-1 contest on sophomore defenseman Chad Billins' (Marysville) one timer.  Junior defenseman Zach Redmond (Traverse City) picked up the assist on the Billins' lamplighter at 11:33 into the second period.

Ferris State would go on to outshoot the Golden Hawks 18-6 in the third period, but WLU goaltender Ryan Daniels didn't allow another goal and concluded the game with an impressive 55 saves.  The Bulldogs compiled a 56-to-26 shots advantage for the game.

FSU's starting netminder Jordan Barber stopped nine shots in the first period before giving way to Pat Nagle, who made eight second-period saves.  Sophomore Taylor Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan) saw action between the posts in the third period and ended up with six stops.

The Bulldogs will officially start their 2009-10 season next weekend, Oct. 10-11, versus the Canisius Golden Griffins in Buffalo, N.Y.  Both non-league games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EDT) starts and can be heard live on WWBR Big Country Radio with Dom Hennig calling the action.
