Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University was well-represented on the 2010-11 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's and women's golf teams announced recently by the league office.

FSU women's freshman golfer Jacqueline DeBoer (Grand Rapids/South Christian) was chosen as the GLIAC Women's Golf Freshman of the Year Award recipient.  She was also one of three Bulldog women's golfers to receive all-conference recognition.

Four men's golfers picked up All-GLIAC accolades with head coach Mike Mignano being tabbed as the GLIAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year.

Senior Kyle Wittenbach (Lowell), who was the GLIAC's individual medalist at the league championships last fall, received first team all-conference honors.  Senior Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) was among six second-team picks with senior Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) and junior Ian Straayer (Caledonia/Grandville) chosen to the honorable mention team.

On the women's side, DeBoer was also a first-team selection with freshman Emily Rhody (Farwell) being tabbed to the All-GLIAC Second Team.  Junior Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) was recognized as an honorable mention honoree.

The All-GLIAC women's selections were based upon a player's stroke average in her nine best rounds of league play, including the league tournament.  All ties were broken by stroke totals in the conference event.

All-GLIAC Men's Golf selections were based upon a player's stroke average in his 15 best rounds in league play, including the three rounds of the GLIAC Tournament.  All ties were also broken by total strokes in the conference tournament.

DeBoer earned GLIAC Freshman of the Year laurels after finishing tied for sixth overall at the 2011 GLIAC Championships this past weekend (April 22-23) in Ashland, Ohio. DeBoer posted a team-best total of 246 (+30) in the three rounds. She has been the Bulldogs' highest finisher in four tournaments this year, including a career-high third place performance at the Lake Superior State Invitational (Sept. 11-12). Overall, she's posted seven top-20 showings and is averaging a team-leading 80.53 stroke average in 19 rounds to date this campaign.

Mignano was tabbed as the GLIAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the program's 19th league crown last fall (Oct. 3-4) by virtue of a playoff victory.  The Bulldogs placed sixth or better in four of their six fall tournaments this campaign and also have a pair of top five tourney finishes to date this spring.  FSU earned its ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this year under Mignano's direction after registering a school-best seventh place finish in the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.  He also has guided Ferris State's women's team to its 10th-straight NCAA Tournament berth this year.

The Ferris State women's squad will take part in the 2011 East Super Regional from May 1-3 at the Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon, Pa.

The Bulldog men's team will compete in the 2011 Midwest/South Central Super Regional from May 2-4 at The Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky.
