Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads conclude a three-game homestand this week inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena as the Bulldogs play a pair of important Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheaders in Big Rapids.
On Thursday (Feb. 1) evening, FSU will play host to the Northwood Timberwolves with the men's game starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's contest at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
Then, on Saturday (Feb. 3), the Bulldogs wrap up the homestand against Saginaw Valley State in an afternoon affair beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) for the men's tilt and 3 p.m. (ET) for the women.
The Bulldog women's squad will help celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a special event as part of Saturday's contest. All girls aged 7-13 who have an interest in learning more about the behind-the-scenes workings of an athletic event can apply to be members of the Bulldogs' game day staff as part of the special initiative. Young women can apply and take part in a number of positions, including in-game promotions, radio, social media, photography, public address announcer, music DJ, band, sports medicine and coaching.
To sign up and take part in Saturday's special women's event, please email Estelle Molitor at email@example.com and indicate your preferred position(s) from the list above. All young female athletes in "team gear or a uniform" will get free admission to Saturday's game regardless of whether or not they are participating in the "behind the scenes" positions.
Both Ferris State teams are coming off victories in the opening game of the homestand this past Sunday (Jan. 28) as the nationally fourth-ranked men's squad claimed a 78-67 "Fight For First" showdown win over Lake Superior State before a crowd of more than 2,000 fans with the Bulldog women beating the Lakers 75-59 in the nightcap.
The Bulldog men, under head coach Andy Bronkema, are currently off to a school all-time best 21-1 start and lead the GLIAC standings by two games with an 11-1 league record. FSU has won its last nine outings of the year and is unbeaten at home (12-0) to date this season.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog women hold an 11-9 overall mark and have more than doubled their win total already from the last two seasons under head coach Kendra Faustin. With Sunday's win, the Bulldogs are now midst a four-way tie for perhaps the final three spots in the GLIAC Tournament with eight games remaining in the regular-season.
Earlier this year, the men's squad beat both NU and SVSU on the road by scores of 76-65 and 81-45, respectively. The women's team dropped a pair of games that went to the wire in the first matchups with a 80-76 setback at Northwood followed by a 77-72 decision against the Cardinals.
