Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University Athletics and the Bulldog men's basketball program will honor and recognize teams from one of the most outstanding eras of FSU hoops on Saturday, Jan. 13, against Northern Michigan University inside Jim Wink Arena.
Teams from the "Coach Tom Ludwig era" from 1979 to 1996 will be honored as part of the weekend reunion activities, which begin with an early bird social featuring the former Bulldog head coach on Friday (Jan. 12) evening at the Hampton Inn.
Saturday's activities will include a pre-game campus tour and lunch at The Rock on the FSU campus following the contest beginning at 1 p.m. (ET). Former players, coaches, managers and support staff from the Ludwig era will be honored at halftime.
During the memorable era under Coach Ludwig, the Bulldogs won seven Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, had five league runner-up finishes and made five trips to the NCAA Tournament.
"It has been my pleasure over the past four years, as head coach, to build a relationship with Coach Ludwig, and I have been very open in saying that we are trying to recreate the glory years that he established during his career," said FSU head coach Andy Bronkema. "It is very important to us that the history of our basketball program be remembered and celebrated and coming together for this Legacy event will strengthen our relationships and network."

The Ferris State men's basketball squad has carried on the outstanding Bulldog tradition to date this season as FSU is off to a 13-1 overall start, which ranks as the best in school history, and is currently the number five team in the nation heading into the holiday break.
The matchup against Northern Michigan will have a big impact on this year's GLIAC race as the Wildcats are currently off to a 5-0 conference start under another former Bulldog head coach in Bill Sall.
Ludwig guided the Bulldog men's basketball program to seven GLIAC titles in his 14 full seasons at the program's helm. He compiled a 266-172 (.607) overall record as Ferris' head coach. He led the Bulldogs to five NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, including a NCAA II Elite Eight appearance in 1987-88.
During the Ludwig era, his squads won 20 or more games five times and posted a school-record 25 wins in 1987-88. Three of those 20-plus win campaigns came during a four-year stretch in which the Bulldogs captured a then league-record four-straight GLIAC Championships. Ferris went undefeated (16-0) in conference play during the 1988-89 season.
Ludwig was a five-time GLIAC Coach of the Year honoree and his 1988-89 squad posted a number one national ranking.
