Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams will play their final two regular-season games with a pair of home doubleheaders this week inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs will host archrival Grand Valley State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Thursday evening with the women's game set to tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m. (ET). It will mark the second meeting of the year between the two longtime West Michigan rivals with a large crowd again expected for the annual rivalry game.
Along with Thursday's games, the Bulldogs will also be at home this Saturday (March 1) as they host Saginaw Valley State in the regular-season finale in Big Rapids. Saturday will be "Senior Day" as FSU honors a pair of seniors between games, which begin at 1 p.m. (ET) and 3 p.m. (ET) for the women and men, respectively.
Again this season, one lucky Bulldog fan will also have a chance to win $10,000 at every conference home game as part of the Lake Osceola State Bank $10,000 Shootout. One contestant will be picked at random for a chance to make a layup, free throw, three-pointer and half-court shot in 25 seconds.
Ferris State home basketball tickets can be purchased in advance thru the FSU Athletics Ticket Office by calling (231) 591-2888 or visit FerrisStateBulldogs.com for more information. They can also be bought online via StarTickets.com.
Adult general admission tickets are $7 or the cost is $5 for FSU faculty/staff, seniors ages 65 and up or students age 3 thru 12th grade. FSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID card.
Both Ferris State teams head into the final week of the season with plenty of momentum. The women's squad has won each of its last three contests, including a 85-77 victory last Thursday (Feb. 20) over nationally 21st-ranked Wayne State at home along with a 83-75 road win on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Saginaw Valley State. The men's team also claimed back-to-back wins last week with a 75-72 win over the Warriors followed by a decisive road triumph at SVSU by a 90-68 count.
On the men's side, Grand Valley State holds a 18-7 overall record and is 14-7 in league play while the Cardinals droped to 9-15 overall and 5-15 in the GLIAC after last Saturday's setback to the Bulldogs. SVSU visits Northwood on Thursday prior to visiting Ferris State in the rescheduled season finale.
Meanwhile, the Lakers hold a 14-11 mark in women's basketball play and are 12-9 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley State is 13-10 overall entering the week along with 11-9 in conference action with both opponents still contending for potential GLIAC Tournament berths.
On Saturday, Ferris State will honor a senior from each team as part of the annual "Senior Day" celebration in two-time All-America guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) on the women's side along with two-year letterwinner Raymoan McAfee (Detroit/Pershing) on the men's side.
Saturday will also represent "Upward Day" for youth basketball players. All "Upward" participants who wear their uniform to the game will receive complimentary admission for themselves plus one parent or guardian. Tickets for other family members of a uniformed participant may be purchased for $4 each. Those in uniform will be eligible for on-court games and prizes throughout the day with both FSU men's and women's basketball players available after their respective games for autographs and photos.
Both doubleheaders will be broadcast locally by Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network starting with the Meijer Pregame Show a half-hour prior to tipoff of the women's game. Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action. A live audio broadcast, pay-per-view video webcast and live internet statistics will also be offered with all links accessible online at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
