First Ferris State Home Basketball Doubleheaders This Week As Bulldogs Open GLIAC Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams will play their first regular-season and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home contests of the 2013-14 season this week at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs will host the Lake Erie Storm in a league doubleheader on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the women's game set to tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m. (ET).

Additionally, on Saturday, Dec. 7, FSU hosts the Ashland Eagles in a twinbill with the women's contest slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) start and the men's game beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).

Thursday's doubleheader will be co-hosted by the FSU College of Business Sports Marketing class with Rogers Jewelers serving as the game's official sponsor.

Again this season, one lucky Bulldog fan will have a chance to win $10,000 at every conference home game as part of the Lake Osceola State Bank $10,000 Shootout.  One contestant will be picked at random for a chance to make a layup, free throw, three-pointer and half-court shot in 25 seconds.

Ferris State home basketball tickets can be purchased in advance thru the FSU Athletics Ticket Office by calling (231) 591-2888 or visit FerrisStateBulldogs.com for more information. They can also be bought online via StarTickets.com.

Adult general admission tickets are $7 or the cost is $5 for FSU faculty/staff, seniors ages 65 and up or students age 3 thru 12th grade. FSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID card.

Both the Bulldog men's and women's basketball squads will be seeking their first wins of the season as they start conference play following the Thanksgiving holiday. Thursday's contest will mark the regular-season home debut for first-year men's basketball head coach Andy Bronkema.

On the opposite side, Lake Erie owns a current 3-3 overall record in men's basketball heading into Thursday's initial conference contest. The Storm women's team is presently off to a 5-1 start this season.

Saturday's opponent, Ashland, is 2-1 on the year in men's action. The Eagles are also the defending NCAA Division II National Champions in women's basketball and open this week's road trip with a current 2-1 record. Both Ashland teams will face Grand Valley State on Thursday night before squaring off against the Bulldogs.

All of this week's action will be broadcast locally by Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network starting with the Meijer Pregame Show a half-hour prior to tipoff of the women's game. Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action. A live audio broadcast and pay-per-view video webcast will also be accessible at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
